Online Lexile Resource: "Find a Book"

Here’s a neat reading advisory tool to use with parents and/or students searching for that perfect book. It’s super easy to use, performs various searches, details information on Lexile ranges, and is connected to WorldCat to let you know if you can find the book in the Osceola Library.

It is a free online search tool called “find a book” that explains Lexiles from start to finish, and allows users to perform searches that will turn up book suggestions based on interests, genre, or Lexile range. You can explore it here: www.lexile.com/findabook

What is Lexile? "Lexiles measure text complexity and have been used for years by educators and schools. Lexiles are also used by EBSCO and ProQuest and are used to measure their articles. A Lexile reader measure can range from below 200L for beginning readers (BR) to above 1700L for advanced readers, and the measures range by increments of 10. The Lexile is determined based on various factors that influence how difficult a text is to comprehend: word frequency , sentence length, number of syllables in a word and words in a sentence, complexity of grammar, sentence construction, and definitions. "
